Soil Making and Recipe

Having the correct soil for your plants is key when container gardening. Potting mixes alone normally do not contain the right nutrients and can compact when it becomes wet. To prevent your plants from getting root rot, having a light and fluffy mix is key. I create my own mix to save money. Pre-packaged mixes can be costly. I buy in bulk to cut cost and make more manageable.

Needed:

Quality potting mix

Perlite

Coco coir chips

Orchid bark

Charcoal Compost or worm casting

Big bin

Mix 1/3 of container with potting mix, 1/3 perlite, 1/4 coco coir chips, 1/4 orchid bark, 5-6 scoops of charcoal. Mix well and store.
