Gift giving guide for gardeners
Gardeners can be some of the easiest yet most difficult to buy gifts for during the holidays. My husband would say the latter is truer. Most often the items I need and want I end up purchasing for myself because I need them sooner rather than later and telling someone you want pruners for Christmas sounds ridiculous. Fear not, I am going to give you great ideas for the gardener and plant lover in your life. I use all every time I am in my garden, so they have been assessed.
Hemlock hat’s from Hemlock Hat Company. I own two of these hats and swear by them. The wide brim keeps my face and shoulders from getting too much sun, but it also keeps me cool. They come in many designs and colors. My personal favorite is Monarch. The quality is superb as well.
Duluth Heirloom Garden Overalls is the best attire for the garden lover. They are lightweight (yes even in FL), comfortable, have so many compartments to carry your tools and you can look cool wearing them too. They tend to run a bit large. I have two pairs of shorts and one pair of long pants, and both are wonderful to wear even when it is super-hot outside. The material is breathable and dries fast if it gets wet. The quality of the fabric is great too. I have washed these so many times.
Farmers Defense Arm Sleeves are one of my most favorite garden items. These help keep my arms from getting scratched, poked, and irritated. If you have ever worked with bromeliads, you will wish you had these. I have a plant that the leaves feel like sandpaper, and these keep my arms from getting irritated. Also, when I work with my roses, the thorns get caught on the sleeves, but do not scratch my arms. They offer sun protection as well. The thumb holes help keep them in place and the elastic is soft and will not pinch your skin. I have three of these and love all the innovative designs, so I will be getting some more. These are wonderful for your plant lover.
Felco Pruners and Snippers are the best garden tools on the market. Having quality tools is important. Felco pruners are not only high quality, but they have a lifetime guarantee. All parts can be removed and replaced. I kept replacing inexpensive pruners often until I gifted myself these. Now I cannot imagine gardening without these pruners. The snippers are great too for deadheading. A friend of mine said she has had her Felco’s for 40 years. These are gifts that would be appreciated.
We the Wild Plant Care items are great for your gardener or houseplant lover. Their organic products are safe for you, your pets, and your plants. Made with worm castings and other organic materials to not only feed your plants but protect and shine as well. The neem oil spray smells good and also shines your leaves. The leaf shining gloves are great too for keeping your big leaf philodendrons looking pretty.
Gigi’s Garden Gifts are not only adorable, but they are sustainable and made with love. I love her packaging as much as I love the gift. All seeds come from her own garden and made into adorable, hand-crafted gifts for the garden lover. Any gardener would LOVE to get this gift.
Garden art is always a great idea to get your plant lover too. I highly recommend three local artists. Becky Coleman makes the most incredible ornaments and nature inspired art. She also created my own personal logo. Aaron Apsley creates gorgeous watercolor botanical prints, notecards, and stickers. And Gypsy Gardener creates the most colorful, whimsical and botanical themed artwork. She will paint on anything… She has painted pots and garden ornaments for me. All three of these artists are incredibly talented. Your plant lover would love to have a print, ornament, notecard, sticker, planner, or calendar from any of these artists.
Gift Cards from your local plant sellers. Not sure what your plant and garden lover want? You do not have time to look? A gift card to get garden gifts, plants and garden art is a great gift. I offer garden consultations as well. Gift cards from me can include services as well. I am sure other sellers do the same. Always try to shop locally for your plants! Local plant sellers are the best.
