Diary of a Gardener My Favorite 2025 Products

I love discovering new products. Who isn’t drawn to something cute and cool for the home or garden? However, as I’ve accumulated more and more items, I’ve become more particular about my purchases. Now, I pay close attention to the material composition, durability, and longevity of both the product and its trend.

As a small business owner, I also believe in the importance of supporting other small businesses, especially those owned by women. When someone creates a product that is unique, artistic, sustainable, useful, and meaningful—a product with a story that stands out from the mass-produced items—I want those businesses to succeed. I want everyone I know to experience and own those products.

This past year, I came across two such products. I personally know their creators, which makes these items even more special. Knowing the story behind a product helps the end user feel a sense of pride in owning something made with love.

The first product I discovered is Vina Planters. I met Sarah, the creator, at a landscape show, and I stopped in my tracks when I saw a stunning orchid hanging in an equally stunning basket. This wasn’t your typical wooden basket with a wire hanger that could poke your eyes out—it was show-stopping. I had to learn more. Once I got home, I placed my first wholesale order, and needless to say, half the products ended up in my own garden because you can’t just have one. I’ve planted both orchids and hoyas in these baskets, and they enhance the beauty of any tree they hang from. Gorgeous doesn’t even begin to cover it.

Vina Planters are made from recycled plastic rather than wooden slats that can mildew and rot. They can also be taken apart if needed. When they get dirty, you simply wipe them off, and they are durable enough to withstand squirrels knocking them out of trees. The best part? They come with a chain instead of a wire hanger, making them safer and easier to use. Currently, they are available in 6-inch and 8-inch baskets, with a 10-inch version coming soon. Although I’m currently out of stock, I’ll be placing a new order shortly.

Sarah is kind, generous, and just an all-around wonderful person—as is her husband. They live in Florida, so for those looking to support the state’s economy, this is a great Florida-based product.

The second product is The Mad Plantist Small Plant Hanger. I met Jenni during a horticulture business coaching call I joined last year. Jenni stood out because she’s from New Zealand, and among us Americans, her accent made her sound smarter and much cooler. Her energy and business savvy were captivating. Once I learned what she was selling and why she joined a group of American entrepreneurs, I was hooked. Jenni’s product was en route to the U.S. to be sold on Amazon before the holidays. Luckily, as soon as they arrived, I got my hands on one.

The Monstera Leaf Hanger is incredibly creative and unique, elevating the way plants are displayed. You can place a potted plant on the base or use it for an air plant (which I did because I wanted to showcase the base). Although designed for indoor use, it works outdoors as well on a covered lanai or patio. The galvanized, powder-coated steel plant rack comes with a chain and can be stacked. If you’ve run out of floor space, this hanger allows you to think vertically when styling your plants. You can purchase them on Amazon. Hopefully, I’ll be able to sell Jenni’s products locally one day, but for now, head to Amazon to get yours.

Both of these rockstar women have poured their hearts and souls into their products. Their stories alone make me want to own multiples, not just because I love and believe in their products, but because I believe in them. When you know the story behind the “why,” it creates a deeper connection with the product, making it even more impactful. Women in horticulture-based businesses will always have my support. This industry has been male-dominated for years, so seeing women pave their own way inspires me and helps me grow.

I hope you’ll check out these products. At the very least, follow them on social media or sign up for their newsletters—I promise you won’t be disappointed.
