Diary of a Gardener It’s only Temporary
Years ago, I remember complaining about a busy schedule and how I felt life at that moment was a blur of events. I remember a friend saying “this time in your life is only temporary.” I have held on to that thought ever since. The pain you feel during a workout, the busy schedule of your week, your kids growing up, you growing older, Christmas, a flower just bloomed, it is all only temporary. If you think about a flower and how it seems to take forever to emerge from its bud state and unfurl its leaves to a gorgeous flower but once open its beauty fades so quickly. Flowers have a way of teaching us to stay present. Flowers force us to stop in our tracks and be awestruck by their beauty. We exam this majestic life that only shines for us for sometimes a few hours. Stop. Pay attention. Look around you and appreciate it is beauty.
What if we realized every moment was that important? What if we stopped to appreciate each moment for what it does for us, because it is only temporary? Our time on earth is only temporary. Nature has a funny way of making us thankful. To be thankful for cooler temperatures, to be thankful for this afternoon’s rain, to be thankful for a butterfly that nectar on your flowers, to be thankful.
Next time you are feeling the squeeze of life remember “it’s only temporary.” Move past the uncomfortable stage, the overstuffed schedule and out of the temporary.
